What is carpet cleaning?
There are four different types of carpet cleaning: Dry cleaning, host cleaning, carpet steam cleaning, and encapsulation cleaning (bonnet cleaning)
Accredited CPS specialises in steam cleaning, which is what most carpet manufacturers recommend. The first step is to vacuum any dry soil out of the carpet, then agitate it, spot clean it, and remove stains.
We apply a cleaning agent onto the carpet pile, then agitate it in, after which we extract it using steam and a rinsing agent.
How often should I clean my carpets?
How long does a carpet cleaning take?
The length of time depends on the size of the property. A three bedroom house with a lounge, dining room, and a hallway might take an hour to two to clean professionally. To dry a carpet in summer takes a further hour and a half to two hours.
In winter, with cold air flow, this might take slightly more time. If it’s a wool carpet – which absorbs more moisture – we turn the pressure down and increase the steam and heat, so your carpet dries quicker. Nevertheless, a wool carpet will generally take a bit longer to dry.
What is the carpet cleaning process?
In the rental market, a lot of carpet cleaning companies come in and go out as fast as they can.
We call them ‘suck and go artists’; they come in, spray the carpet with a very high pH chemical, extract it, then hit the road. They have to turn over a very high volume of carpet cleaning, so that’s how they operate.
How we're different
We focus more on the Port Macquarie homeowner market and pay more attention to detail. Our process involves inspecting the carpet and identifying what type of fibre we’re working with. We’ll then discuss the process with the client first, and then vacuum, do spot and stain removal, and apply the chemical to the pile.
We then agitate it in and let it dwell nicely – this is the contact time for the product to be absorbed well into the carpet.
We then agitate it, extract it with steam cleaning methods, then massage the pile.
We might run a bonnet over the top of the carpet to speed up the drying process. And then we will then set the pile to whatever the client wants.
Steam cleaning leaves the carpets slightly damp, but within two hours they’re bone dry and you can move your furniture back onto the carpet.
What’s involved in steam cleaning a carpet?
Steam cleaning is done by a machine that’s usually mounted in the back of a van. It produces heat, a vacuum, and pressure.
When the water passes around the coil of a heat exchange unit, it becomes extremely hot – over 100 degrees C – and turns into steam.
It’s important to note that the steam is created through a water solution line. This means it’s actual steam, not hot water.
How much does carpet cleaning cost?
On an average, carpet cleaning costs between $30 and $50 a room, depending on the age and condition of the carpet.
This is the industry standard rate. If your carpet’s well maintained and looked after and the technician doesn’t have to spend much time on it, your cost will come down.
